My name is Aviwe Mteti, stage name well known as Verticle. Based in Johannesburg. I was Born in the Eastern Cape eQonce, but I grew up in Cape Town, Brooklyn. Brooklyn is a downtown city heavily influenced by drugs, gangs and prostitution which is where I found my influence. I was captured by the work ethic that all those factors carried. Whether to society it was wrong, but there was always a motive. I carried that drive I got from the street, the drive of being the best and the baddest. I could pick it up from anything and anywhere, from kickboxers, models, influencers, and regular people waking up in the early hours of the morning heading to work. My music is heavily influenced by the street night life. I believe every city has it on secrets and deep in the night she comes to play. A lot people live within the shadows of the night searching for a reminder. A reminder of who they really are. Chasing lust over love. Cape Town night life kinda exposed that to me.
